Eating Healthy One Day at a Time

I always thought I did a pretty good job of trying to stay on track when it comes to my eating habits. I had previously been following Dr. Ian Smith's shred diet. Lately I have been trying to follow the principles but not necessarily the book's suggested meals.

I was talking to a friend Demarish Ruffin-Smith and telling her about the canned soups and spaghetti in a bag I was eating. Well she really lit in to me. LOL She was appalled that I would eat these soups with their high sodium content. I never really thought about it but when I looked at the can sure enough, the levels were off the charts.

The next day I went out to her store of choice, Whole Foods and bought some organic and healthy food options. I also cooked that day baked chicken, brown rice and mixed vegetables. It has been a week since the conversation and I have also made a chicken and rice soup. I am going to have to explore more options but it can be done. I am back to incorporating salads, more veggies and fruits as well. I have only eaten out once and that was to Subway for a $5 tuna sandwich since I had to take advantage of this months footlong special..

I have a number of friends who are working on their health and fitness so its nice to have others in your corner and encouraging you on. It certainly is a lifestyle change but you just have to take it one day at a time.

Let's hear it for Healthy Eating!!!!!

Compliments: We All Like Them

The other day, I was in the store and this older gentleman said hi how are you doing? I said my normal response fine thanks, and you? He responded with I know you are but I was asking how you are feeling. It took me a second to catch it but when I did, I was amused.

He just did not stop there though. He went on to say wherever I got my outfit from they should be paying me because I was really wearing it. Mind you I had on a pair of jeans and cute top so it was nothing out of the ordinary but I guess he could appreciate a good pair of jeans. He kept passing me in the store each time with a different compliment. Next, he went on to say that my man must feel like he hit the lottery everyday and not the little one, but the big one, the jackpot. I was so tickled. I have heard a lot of lines but this man was full of humor. After a few more comments, he finally said on his way out the store, your mother must be really fine so tell her I said thank you. Now that was certainly a new one and not sure I'll tell Ms. Jessie that one but he certainly made my shopping experience different than the norm.

Suffice it to say, this man was very funny to me but it just reminded me that we should give compliments when they are due and those on the receiving end should except them as just that. I really was not surprised that this older gentleman said this things because they tend to be more free and forthcoming and I have gotten this before. The younger generation should get with this program because compliments can go a long way. I might just start dishing out more myself but not sure I'm going to be as funny as that man.
